Vodacom DRC chooses Nasctech for Field Ops Management

Nasctech, the leading provider of Field Operation Support Systems for Communication Service Providers (CSPs), announced that its STREAMLINE solution has been deployed by Vodacom in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The announcement was made during the Enterprise Ireland trade mission to South Africa and Nigeria, led by Minister for Trade and Development, Joe Costello T.D.

STREAMLINE is a unique solution that enables CSPs to reduce their network field OPEX spend while increasing visibility and control over their field operations, including fuel management. Vodacom DRC has deployed STREAMLINE to lower costs, improve network quality and drive efficiencies in its field organisation.

STREAMLINE is based on the new industry concept of Field Operations Support Systems (FSS), which is the application of the principles and practices of OSS to the field, integrating field operations with an operator’s network operations centre and enabling critical applications and processes to be projected into the field. Network availability improves as operation efficiency ensures problems are identified in advance and pre-emptive action taken. Proactive analysis of field metrics allows quick identification problem areas, such as site fuel mismanagement and swift proactive action to be taken.

As CSPs strive for strategic advantage, network OPEX spend has become a key focus area in cost optimization. While current OSS systems only highlight issues, STREAMLINE drives entire OSS processes into the field via FSS, through rapid issue identification and converts insights into fully implementable actions. It does this through capabilities that combine a real-time view of all field operations with actionable management tools leveraging the insights via a single, structured database of all field data.

Welcoming the announcement in Cape Town Minister Costello said:

Ireland is recognised as a centre of excellence for the development of new and innovative telecoms technologies. This trade mission to South Africa and Nigeria is focusing on the telecoms sector in particular. I congratulate Nasctech on winning business with Vodacom DRC. This is a further example of dynamic Irish companies delivering innovative solutions to the international telecoms market.

Globe Philippines selects Nasctech to transform field operations

Nasctech, the premier provider of Field Operation Support Systems for Communication Service Providers (CSPs), today announced that its STREAMLINE solution has been selected by Globe Philippines. STREAMLINE is a unique solution that enables CSPs to drive down their field OPEX spend, and achieve a strong degree of visibility and control over the management of their field operations.

Globe Philippines has deployed STREAMLINE to lower costs, improve network quality, and drive general efficiencies in its field organisation. STREAMLINE is based on the new industry concept of Field Operations Support Systems (FSS), which is the application of the principles and practices of OSS to the field, properly integrating field operations with an operator’s network operations centre and critical applications.

As the shift in focus for CSPs moves from growth to network optimisation, significant emphasis is now being placed on field cost efficiencies and quality, particularly so given that field operations is generally the number one OPEX spend area company-wide for most operators. However, current OSS systems only serve to highlight issues, but FSS drives the entire process further. It does this through capabilities that combine a real-time view of all field operations with actionable management tools leveraging the insights via a single, structured database of all field data.

Des Keary, CEO of Nasctech, explained: > Field Operation Support Systems are integral to the effective management of field operations. STREAMLINE can save an operator up to 10 percent of field OPEX, which for an operator with over 5000 different sites to cover can translate into a saving of up to $5m per annum or more.

He added:

STREAMLINE gives operators a real time view of all field based projects and activities, providing strong validation and visibility. Furthermore, the solution mobilises the operator’s back end, leveraging investments in OSS, ticketing platforms and more. The power and functionality of the STREAMLINE solution allows operators to drive down costs, and drive up network availability and quality.

Speaking of the engagement on behalf of Globe Philippines, Robert Tan, CTO, said

We selected STREAMLINE to transform our field operations due to the uniqueness of the platform and the willingness of Nasctech to customise to our needs. They have demonstrated their commitment by deploying all necessary resources to deliver the project against aggressive timelines.”

Notes to the editor

CSPs already realigning their management capabilities to gain greater field focus and lower OPEX through FSS include Digicel Papua New Guinea (PNG) which deployed the Nasctech solution in June 2011. Digicel PNG implemented the solution to manage its mast network and field-based technical staff across a challenging topography served by a limited transport infrastructure. On April 12, 2012 Arizona-based Cellular One also announced its implementation of STREAMLINE across its rural network in the southwestern U.S. In April 2012 Digicel Caribbean deployed STREAMLINE to unify and optimise operations across its Caribbean-wide network. Just recently in April 2013, Vodacom Congo ordered the STREAMLINE solution to enable the control of costs around refueling and genset maintenance, and to give visibility and control of what is happening in the field.

NascTech enables Cellular One to deliver efficient field operations

Nasctech, the premier provider of field OPEX management solutions for communication service providers, announced today that its STREAMLINE™ solution has been implemented by CellularOne, headquartered in Arizona, across its rural network in the southwestern U.S.

Cellular One has deployed STREAMLINE to lower its operational field costs, optimize workforce management, improve process planning, and drive efficiency in the field while also leveraging existing system OSS functionality and assets.

The Nasctech solution allows us to organize and automate our field operations, permitting us to map and mobilize our field processes thus delivering efficiency gains. The result is decreased costs.

explained Guy Turley, CTO at CellularOne

Rather than working with many different systems across multiple contractors, we can unify our fieldoperations into a single view, saving valuable management time. In addition, STREAMLINE helps ensure that job activities are completed properly and validated on site, and the right information is readily available to accurately complete field tasks using the customized checklists, OSS alarms, and trouble tickets.

Mr. Turley continued: > The KPI and trending of field information from the system means my O&M managers have the business intelligence data available to drive improved performance and move toward lowering costs both now and into the future.

Nasctech CEO Des Keary said: > We are delighted that Cellular One decided to use our STREAMLINE solution to optimize their field activities and bring a higher level of efficiency to the daily operations of their tower network. We believe Nasctech’s software can save up to 10% on OPEX for a typical cellular operator, as well and reducing revenue leakage through tighter preventative maintenance. We look forward to working with Cellular One to achieve its longer term goal of decreasing its operational costs across its tower network.

NascTech signs deal with Digicel PNG

Nasc Technologies, an Irish company that provide field management solutions for telecoms operators, announced today that Digicel Papua New Guinea has signed a deal to use their system to manage their mast network and field based technical staff. Digicel, who launched services in PNG in 2007, has developed a world class network throughout PNG offering Voice, SMS and Internet coverage to more than 4.5 million Papua New Guineans. In April 2011 Digicel PNG began a phased roll out of mobile broadband services with 3G overlay on its network in key urban centres. With PNG’s challenging topography and limited transport infrastructure, the maintenance of their nationwide network of cell towers is a constant focus for the Digicel PNG team.

To address that need, Digicel PNG has worked with NascTech to develop, trial, and deploy a solution to simplify and tighten the management of their extensive network of cell towers. The solution consists of a reporting GUI, a server powering the solution, and most importantly an innovative handset app which allows the engineers to receive their work plan daily, and report back on all activities carried out. These reports are analyzed and summarized for senior management online. This provides management with a clear daily view of the operations of the mast network and enabling swifter diagnosis of potential problems which often result in a mast outage and loss of revenue.

The system also mobilises the office to a large degree for the engineers, for example presenting alarms on the app to indicate problems, and allowing the engineers to raise tickets on issues on the fly. In addition, the reporting include a large social element whereby photographs are integral to reporting, and users and management can chat on issues in a style similar to that on Facebook.

Digicel CTO Shiva Kumar said: > The NascTech system gives us improved visibility and control over our Team in the field and the maintenance of our network, allowing for a preventative approach. This has resulted in reduced operational costs, and we would hope to see service pay for itself in the coming months in terms of savings.

Nasc Technologies CEO Des Keary said: > We are delighted that Digicel PNG have decided to use our solution to solve their problems with the daily operations of their tower network. Digicel is a very innovative and they proved to be the ideal partner with whom to develop this unique solution. We believe NascTech’s software can save up to 10% on Opex for any mobile operator in the developing world, as well as reducing capex spend and reducing revenue leakage. We look forward to working with Digicel to quickly bring the benefits of the system to other key markets in its global footprint.
